The incidents occurred during the early morning hours of Monday, Dec. 17, and again on Thursday, Dec. 20, two residences were burglarized by the suspects entering through unlocked doors while the residents were home sleeping, the Westport Police said.

During the course of the first burglary, several items were stolen. Additionally, several unlocked cars in the neighborhood had been rifled through.

During the second burglary, keys were taken from inside the residence and the victim’s vehicle was stolen. A wallet and credit cards were also stolen from another unlocked vehicle at the residence.

These incidents are being investigated by members of the Westport Police Detective Bureau.

"We continue to investigate these crimes and warn residents that failure to secure personal property will only result in the continuance of these incidents," the department said. "The Westport Police Department continues to advise residents to lock their vehicles, lock their homes and activate security systems if their homes are equipped."

Residents are urged participate in the “9 PM Routine.”

The 9 PM Routine is a national public service campaign and a simple and effective way to prevent theft. It includes removing valuables from vehicles, locking car doors and bringing keys inside.
